Pee Tree Revisited

You may remember from such posts as Pee Tree, that this elm tree in Tompkins Square Park, a favorite spot for peeing dogs, is also a favorite gathering place for Krishna types:

Krishna types.

It's not what people might expect, when they decide to becoming one with everything!

Standing Room Only

Everywhere you go in the East Village these days, you'll be caught up in World Cup Mania!

Here at the beloved Zum Schneider, on the corner of Avenue C and East 7th Street, it was standing room only for the game:

Standing room only.

I guess there was sitting room too, it's just that the seats were all filled!

A Beautiful Puddle

When I first saw this puddle, on East 7th Street, I thought it was one of the most beautiful puddles I'd ever seen:

Beautiful puddle.

The picture doesn't do it justice, though — it just doesn't look the same.

(I should have moved that trash bag.)

Watch Everything

I was walking across East 7th Street this past Thursday, when I saw a flash of bright pink in my peripheral field of vision.

I looked down the cellar stairs from whence it came, and saw this:

"Watch Your Head, Please!"

"Watch Your Head Please!" (East Villagers are very polite.)

I think the sign is meant for people who aren't watching their feet: they trip over the trash bags at the bottom of the stairs, and hit their heads!

Maybe there should be a sign on the steps that says: Watch Your Feet Please!

Goodnight… Something.

I was walking across East 7th Street this past Wednesday evening, along the bottom of Tompkins Square Park, when suddenly my earballs were assaulted by what could only be described as "punk rock music".

As any East Villager would do, I went into the park to investigate. This story is the result of my investigation.

Upon entering the park, I beheld the audience.

Punk rock audience, beheld.

The band was not on a stage — it was as if they were part of the audience!

There was a banner hanging behind them that read "Goodnight… something".

There was another that read "Antifascist Action".

Ah ha!

This is a video of them playing:

Someone needs to tell the singer that the mic's not plugged in!

Grand Opening

Regular readers of East Village Today are familiar with the tradition of leaving doors open.

However, there are some doors that have not been opened since before the bad old days. This door, on Avenue B, is one of them — until this past Tuesday afternoon:

Open for the first time.

It turns out there were people inside.

People inside.

I didn't venture in — I didn't want to alarm them. Who knows how long it's been since they've seen the light of day?

East Villagers were stunned — stunned, I say! — to wake up this morning and discover the scaffolding in front of the formerly-beloved dieci on East 10th Street had a possible electrical condition!

Possible electrical condition.

Here is a close-up:

This is why a grounding wire is so important!

It's really quite shocking, to say the least.
